35 Reflections of a 35-year-old Birthday Girl

1. Omg, I’m officially in my mid 30s! *faint*

2. Note to self: have to alter blog bio and perhaps change blog URL to dimsumauntie.

3. Family will always be priority and I’m thankful for mine!

4. I never thought I’d be single and (very) available at 35. Growing up, I remember thinking I’d be married at 28 and have two kids by about 32. Reality couldn’t be more different. The closest I am to that is having two tiny pet fish in my flat, which may just die of starvation when I’m away on holiday. 😐

5. Love comes easier to some than others. Perhaps some of us are just not meant to have a significant other.

6. Anyone can have a job but not everyone can have a career.

7. I still don’t know what I’m doing with my life.

8. Life can really suck at times but it does have its bright moments too.

9. Life is unfair; you can only hope that you are dealt a better stack of cards. But at the end of the day, you just gotta make the best play of the deck you get.

10. Studying mass communications in university was useless. Complete waste of time.

11. I’m afraid of the future; that I’ll never be able to retire and have to end up scraping out a living by working as a McDonald’s auntie in old age.

12. Sadly, there is a high probability that I’ll never be a mother.

13. I’m quite glad to note that I’m fitter than most people younger than me.

14. I have travelled on my own and survived!

15. I’m proud of myself for having the courage to up and leave the security of home to live and work in London and Hong Kong.

16. Though I have made certain bad decisions in terms of jobs, looking back, I think I needed to do what I did to arrive at where I am now. At least I can say I have tried and learnt certain life lessons through the mistakes.

17. It’s great to have girlfriends!!! I’m glad I’m still in contact with friends from my primary, secondary, junior college, and university days as well as a few ex-colleagues who have become friends. Through sports, I have also made some really good friends and I’m thankful for my friendships.

18. I’ll never be thin or slim and I’ll always have a tummy. I love food too much and I’m just the kind who has curves.

19. Ambition isn’t my strongest suit – I don’t aspire to be the next female CEO, but I do like to feel I’m moving forward by learning new stuff and hopefully earning more money as I go along.

20. I secretly wish – not such a secret anymore now that I’m making it known – I were a small-time farmer who survives by living off my own plot of land which I’ll work on my own. Well, I’d like some modern conveniences like running tap water, electricity and the internet too.

21. My dream home is one by the sea; I already know how I’d like my home to be furnished.

22. I’m always going to be an introvert and am never going to be good at small talk.

23. I don’t like schmoozing and am uncomfortable in situations where I’m required to do so.

24. I’m never going to be the sweet as sugar kind of girl. Cannot act sweet or cute for the life of me.

25. I’m really enjoying being in school again even though I’m the old bird in the flock.

26. Working and studying at the same time is tough, but rewarding.

27. It’s important to feed yourself well.

28. If I knew then what I know now, I’d make very different choices in life.

29. My dream job would be a travel writer specialising in healthy food, spas and nature spots around the world.

30. It’s nice to have my family and friends around the world wishing me happy birthday. I feel loved!

31. I’m never going to like olives or raisins.

32. In my past life I might have been a chef.

33. I am still afflicted by the travel bug.

34. I’m more confident and more sure of myself than when I was in my 20s. Hurray!

35. What’s coming up next in life?
